All Character Traits Needed for Success are Biblical

Day 6/6/25 -Friday Character Development

All Character Traits Needed for Success are Biblical

Teaching by Apostle Jean Mulovery

Scripture Foundation

Galatians 5:19-21“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Galatians 5:22-23“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

2 Peter 1:5-8“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Introduction: The Divine Blueprint for Character

Beloved, today we explore one of the most profound truths in Scripture: every character trait necessary for success in life is already defined and provided in God’s Word. The world searches for leadership principles, success formulas, and character development programs, but we have the ultimate source – the Bible itself.

Character is not just about moral behavior; it’s about becoming the person God designed you to be. It’s about reflecting His nature in every aspect of your life, whether in business, relationships, ministry, or personal endeavors.

To properly understand character development, we must consider the crucial contrast presented in Galatians 5 – that between the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit. This is like examining a bad tree versus a good tree – one produces corrupt fruit, the other produces excellent fruit.

Opening Section: Understanding the Opposition – Works of the Flesh vs. Fruit of the Spirit

The Works of the Flesh (Galatians 5:19-21)

Before we discuss the fruit of the Spirit, we must understand what we’re fleeing from. Paul lists 15 works of the flesh that are contrary to God’s character:

1. First Group: Sexual Sins (19)

  • Adultery (Moicheia) – Marital unfaithfulness
  • Fornication (Porneia) – Sexual relations outside of marriage
  • Uncleanness (Akatharsia) – Moral impurity, spiritual defilement
  • Lewdness (Aselgeia) – Shameless conduct, brazen behavior

2. Second Group: Religious Sins (20a)

  • Idolatry (Eidolatria) – Worshiping idols or putting anything in God’s place
  • Sorcery (Pharmakeia) – Using drugs for magical purposes, following other gods

3. Third Group: Social Sins (20b-21a)

  • Hatred (Echthra) – Enmity, hostility
  • Contentions (Eris) – Strife, discord
  • Jealousies (Zelos) – Envy over others’ success
  • Outbursts of Wrath (Thumos) – Explosive anger, fury
  • Selfish Ambitions (Eritheia) – Self-seeking, pursuing only your interests
  • Dissensions (Dichostasia) – Divisions, causing separation
  • Heresies (Hairesis) – Factions, forming selfish groups
  • Envy (Phthonos) – Malicious desire for others’ possessions
  • Murders (Phonos) – Taking life, destroying others

4. Fourth Group: Indulgence Sins (21b)

  • Drunkenness (Methe) – Intoxication, losing control
  • Revelries (Komos) – Wild parties, debauchery

Paul’s Stern Warning

“…those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

This is not merely a warning – it’s divine truth. The works of the flesh cannot produce true success or God’s blessings.

Why Is Understanding the Works of the Flesh Important?

  1. Shows Clear Contrast: You cannot have the fruit of the Spirit while continuing in works of the flesh
  2. Addresses Root Issues: Every work of the flesh has a corresponding fruit of the Spirit
  3. Reveals the Conflict: The Spirit and flesh are at war – you cannot follow both

Section 1: The Fruit of the Spirit – The Antidote to Works of the Flesh

Understanding the Fruit of the Spirit – The Solution to Works of the Flesh

The fruit of the Spirit are not just nice qualities – they are the actual antidotes to the works of the flesh. Each fruit overcomes specific works of the flesh:Work of the FleshFruit of the SpiritResult Adultery/Fornication True Love Pure and faithful relationships Idolatry Love for God Worshiping God alone Hatred Love for Enemies Peace instead of war Contentions Joy Acceptance instead of conflict Jealousy/Envy Joy in Others Celebrating neighbors’ success Wrath Peace Calmness during turmoil Selfish Ambition Patience Waiting instead of rushing Dissensions Kindness Uniting instead of dividing Heresies Goodness Doing good to all Drunkenness Self-Control Personal mastery

Remember: The fruit of the Spirit is not your effort – it’s the result of allowing the Holy Spirit to control your life.

Section 2: Detailed Comparison – How to Transform Works of Flesh into Fruit of Spirit

Practical Steps for Transformation:

1. Recognition (Discovery)

Ephesians 5:11“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”

  • Examine your life honestly
  • Identify which works of the flesh you’re still practicing
  • Don’t fear the truth – it’s the first step to healing

2. Repentance (Heart Change)

1 John 1:9“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

  • Pray for forgiveness sincerely
  • Change your mind about sin
  • Commit to real transformation

3. Replacement (Action)

Romans 12:2“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

  • Create new environments that foster fruit of the Spirit
  • Separate from things that cause works of the flesh
  • Surround yourself with people who display fruit of the Spirit

4. Maintenance (Continuation)

Galatians 5:16“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

  • Live daily under the Spirit’s guidance
  • Follow the instructions of God’s Word
  • Maintain fellowship with other believers

Practical Example: Transforming Anger into Peace

When You Struggle with Anger:

  1. Recognize: “I’ve been harboring anger toward this person…”
  2. Repent: “God, forgive me for my anger…”
  3. Replace: “I will pray for this person and seek to understand them…”

Conclusion: Character as God’s Masterpiece

Beloved, remember that character development is not about self-improvement through human effort. It’s about allowing the Holy Spirit to transform you into the image of Christ. Every trait you need for success – whether in ministry, business, relationships, or personal life – is already provided in Scripture.

Philippians 1:6“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

2 Corinthians 3:18“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.”

God is not just interested in what you do; He’s passionate about who you become. Character is the foundation upon which all lasting success is built. When your character is rooted in Scripture, you become unstoppable because you’re operating in God’s design for human excellence.

Today, commit to being a person of character. Let the fruit of the Spirit flow through your life. Build upon the foundation of faith with virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. Live with integrity and righteousness as your lifestyle.

Remember: All the character traits needed for success are biblical, and they’re all available to you through the power of the Holy Spirit.

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
