Exodus 4:1-10
Teaching Guide:
Moses and God’s Signs
June 12/25
By Apostle Jean Mulovery
Scripture Overviews
In this passage, Moses continues his conversation with God at the burning bush. Moses expresses doubts about whether the Israelites will believe that God sent him, so God gives Moses three miraculous signs to prove His power and authority.
Main Themes for Children
God gives us what we need to do His work
God is patient with our fears and doubts
God’s power is greater than any problem
We can trust God even when we feel
inadequate
Verse-by-Verse Breakdown
Verse 1: Moses’ Concern
“Moses answered, ‘What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, “The Lord did not appear to you”?’”
Teaching Point:
Moses was worried that people wouldn’t believe him. Sometimes we worry about what others will think too. This is normal, and God understands our concerns.
Verses 2-5: The Staff Becomes a Snake
God asks Moses what’s in his hand (a staff), tells him to throw it down, and it becomes a snake. When Moses picks it up by the tail, it becomes a staff again.
Teaching Point:
God can use ordinary things (like Moses’ walking stick) to do extraordinary things. God can use us too, even when we feel ordinary.
Verses 6-8: The Leprous Hand
God tells Moses to put his hand in his cloak. When he pulls it out, it’s white with leprosy. When he puts it back and pulls it out again, it’s healed.
Teaching Point:
God has power over sickness and health. He can heal and restore what seems impossible to fix.
Verses 9-10:
Water to Blood & Moses’ Speech Concern
God says if they don’t believe the first two signs, Moses can pour Nile water on the ground and it will become blood. Moses then says he’s not good at speaking.
Teaching Point:
God had a plan for every objection Moses raised. When we feel we’re not good enough, God has already thought of that too.
